City Park Playground Torched by Vandals; EPFD Estimates Damage at $120k

The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department has closed Indian Heights Park, 3209 White Bird Dr., after vandals torched the playground equipment causing thousands of dollars’ worth of damages.

The El Paso Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the incident that happened at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13.

Indian Heights 1.docxThe fire destroyed the playground and burned the surrounding grass and trees resulting in an estimated $120,000 worth of damages.

Parks and Recreation staff will put a temporary fence around the damaged area until the playground is repaired. The playground is the focal point of the small, less than half-acre pocket park in east El Paso.

This is the second time in three years that Indian Heights Park has been set on fire.
