City rolls out new ‘Live Active EP’ Initiative; Program aims to improve community’s health

Thursday morning,  the City of El Paso launched their new, citywide initiative called “Live Active EP” that encourages and promotes better health and wellness and healthy lifestyle choices by encouraging physical activity, improved nutrition and strong mental well-being.

“As we continue to navigate through the COVID-19 crisis, it is vital to take an active lead to assist our community in getting focused on their personal health and fitness,” said City Manager Tommy Gonzalez. “Live Active EP will do just that. Not only is it a citywide effort to make our city healthier, but prepare everyone, physically and mentally, for the next wave of COVID-19 infections and the upcoming cold and flu season.”

The Live Active EP movement encourages neighbors, friends and families to engage in physical activity and conscious healthy eating habits every day.

City officials share that they designed the initiative to foster physical activity development and awareness in the community. By living active, residents can help mitigate chronic health diseases and risks such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, hypertension and diabetes, to name a few.

A variety of free resources is available on the Live Active EP website. The site contains weekly and monthly programs and events, educational and motivational videos, testimonials from people who decided to live an active life, as well as health information.

The site will soon feature virtual discussions with health experts on nutrition, fitness and workouts, mental health, and diseases affecting our community.

In addition, Live Active EP social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) will feature motivational video messages, fitness challenges and nutrition tips from a variety of partners.

The initiative also includes partnerships from organizations and businesses that have joined the movement.

“Businesses can become Live Active EP partners by taking the pledg,” officials said. “In turn, partners can create content such as health challenges and offer promotions and/or discounts for Live Active EP members.”

Residents can join the Live Active EP movement by taking the pledge at www.LiveActiveEP.com. Participants can share their health stories, take challenges or challenge others, post pictures or videos of their progress while using the hashtag #LiveActiveEP.
