Rendering of proposed Mexican American Cultural Center of El Paso, formerly known as the Hispanic cultural center.
Officials with the City of El Paso are inviting the public to view preliminary ideas and concepts for the Mexican American Culture Center (MACC).
Via a news release, city officials shared, “The meeting will also afford the public another opportunity to provide input to help shape the project’s development.”
In October 2017, Council directed staff to explore alternative sites for the MACC within the Downtown Arts District that would complement existing cultural assets and foster collaborative partnerships.
Since then, staff has explored a variety of sites within and adjacent to the Downtown Arts District, using the preferred amenities and programming needs previously articulated by the MACC Subcommittee to Council.
These proposed preferred amenities and programming include:
- Spaces for galleries
- A teaching kitchen
- An auditorium and black box theater
- Site located within close proximity of public transportation and other cultural institutions
The MACC is one of three signature projects overwhelming approved by voters as part of the 2012 Quality of Life Bond.
