El Paso has been selected to host the 2019 Texas Association of Museums annual meeting.
“After 10 years we are excited to welcome the Texas Association of Museums back to El Paso,” said Bryan Crowe, General Manager for Destination El Paso. “Since we last hosted the event in 2009, the landscape of the city has changed dramatically. From our art filled city square to the Digital 3D Touch Wall, we are eager to reintroduce our guests to the community and showcase a new-and-improved El Paso.”
The event is the largest gathering of museum professionals in Texas, with 400 people attending representing a wide array of museum disciplines. As the host city, El Paso and the surrounding region, provide a unique perspective and strong platform for museum professionals to have meaningful discussions about issues facing communities like diversity, inclusiveness, and outreach.
“It is the caliber of our region’s museums and binational community which makes El Paso a worthy host city for this important conference. Conference attendees will be inspired by our rich culture and history and the ease and fluidity in which residents of our region live. These unique elements will prompt discussion about the future of museums and the importance of engaging communities and representing multiple perspectives,” said Victoria Ramirez, Director of the El Paso Museum of Art and the host committee chair.
Scheduled for next April, attendees will attend workshops ranging from collections management to outreach and development as well as sessions for trustees and administrators.
There will also be opportunities to explore the Downtown Arts District and museums located throughout the region.
The Texas Association of Museums provides a network among museums, to improve the level of professionalism within the museum community, to encourage the use and enjoyment of museums by all Texans, to serve as an information clearinghouse for and about museums, and to serve as a liaison between museums and museums-related agencies and organizations.
