Connect10/Go10/TxDoT project, detours, closure for Week of May 12

Plenty of on-going work throughout the borderland this weekend and throughout the week.

The collector-distributor (CD) lanes opened May 6, marking a major milestone for GO 10; but, work remains in the median of I-10 near Buena Vista. GO 10 is aiming to finish the median work before the end of June.

Hawkins/Viscount Operation Improvements Project

Tuesday, May 14

  • The mainlanes of I-10 West will close completely between the Sunland Park exit ramp and the Sunland Park entrance ramp. Detour: Motorists on I-10 West will exit at Sunland Park (exit 13), then follow the westbound collector-distributor (CD) lanes to North Mesa Street (SH 20). Motorists may re-enter the mainlanes of I-10 West using the North Mesa entrance ramp.
  • The Sunland Park entrance ramp to the mainlanes of I-10 West will close.
  • Crews will be re-striping a portion of I-10 West.

  • Northbound US 54 will be closed to all traffic from Loop 375 to SH 20 (Alameda Avenue).
  • Ramp N, which connects eastbound Loop 375 to northbound US 54, will be closed to all traffic.
  • Ramp O, which connects westbound Loop 375 to northbound US 54, will be closed to all traffic.
  • Detours: Eastbound traffic on Loop 375 can access US 54 by taking Exit 58 (US 62/Paisano Drive/Coles Street), turning right on Paisano, left on Interstate 110, and entering US 54. Westbound traffic on Loop 375 can access US 54 by taking Exit 20 (US 62/Paisano Drive), turn left on Paisano, right on I-110, and entering US 54.
  • Crews will be placing safety barriers.

 

Monday, May 13, through Wednesday, May 15
Nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • The mainlanes of northbound US 54 will be closed to all traffic from I-10 to Pershing Drive.
  • Detours: Westbound traffic on I-10 can access northbound US 54 by taking Exit 22B (US 54 Alamogordo/Fort Bliss/Juárez), traveling toward Juárez, U-turning at US 62 (Paisano Drive) and entering US 54 northbound. All traffic on northbound US 54 must then take Exit 21B (I-10 West/Montana Avenue), travel north on Gateway Boulevard North and re-enter US 54 north of Pershing Drive.
  • Note: Eastbound traffic on I-10 will access northbound US 54 as usual. The collector/distributor (C/D) lanes on northbound US 54 will remain open. 
  • Crews will be placing safety barriers.

Thursday, May 16, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • The mainlanes of northbound US 54 will be closed to all traffic from the Trowbridge Drive overpass to Cassidy Road.
  • Detour: All traffic on northbound US 54 must take Exit 23 (Fort Bliss/Cassidy Road) and continue northbound toward Fort Bliss, re-entering US 54 north of Fred Wilson Avenue.
  • Crews will be placing safety barriers.

Friday, May 17, from 5 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

  • Lane closures will be in place on Boone Street between Yandell Drive and Gateway Boulevard West.
  • Crews will be delivering and assembling a crane.

Saturday, May 18, at midnight, to Monday, May 20, at 5 a.m.

  • Boone Street will be closed to all traffic between Yandell Drive and Gateway Boulevard West.
  • Crews will be delivering and assembling a crane.

Sunday, May 19, at 3 a.m. through Monday, May 20, at 5 a.m.

  • Westbound I-10 will be closed to all traffic at US 54.
  • Ramp L, which connects Gateway Boulevard West to westbound I-10 west of Raynolds Street.
  • Ramp C, which connects northbound US 54 to westbound I-10.

Mall Braided Ramps Project

Sunday, May 12 (complete closure)

  • Airway Boulevard eastbound entrance ramp closed
  • Crews will be pouring drill shaft

 

Monday, May 13
9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • Gateway Boulevard (I-10) East closure between Airway Boulevard and Viscount Boulevard
  • Crews will be striping

To ensure the safety of workers constructing the I-10 Connect project, overnight closures will be in place next week on northbound US 54 and a 27-hour complete closure of westbound Interstate 10 has been scheduled for next weekend.

 

The closures are necessary as crews continue placing temporary concrete barrier to outline the work zone for the I-10 Connect project in South Central El Paso. The 30-foot, 42-inch barriers will create an added layer of separation — and safety — between motorists, construction crews and heavy machinery.

 

The following closures and detours will be in place to accommodate this work:

 

Sunday, May 12, from 9pm to 5am

 

  • Northbound US 54 will be closed to all traffic from Loop 375 to SH 20 (Alameda Avenue)
  • Ramp N which connects eastbound Loop 375 to northbound US 54 will be closed to all traffic
  • Ramp O which connects westbound Loop 375 to northbound US 54 will be closed to all traffic.
  • DETOURS: Eastbound traffic on Loop 375 can access US 54 by taking Exit 58 (US 62/Paisano Drive/Coles Street), turning right on Paisano, left on Interstate 110, and entering US 54. Westbound traffic on Loop 375 can access US 54 by taking Exit 20 (US 62/Paisano Drive), turn left on Paisano, right on I-110, and entering US 54.

 

Crews will be placing safety barriers.

 

Monday, May 13, through Wednesday, May 15

Nightly from 9pm to 5am

 

  • The mainlanes of northbound US 54 will be closed to all traffic from I-10 to Pershing Drive.
  • DETOURS: Westbound traffic on I-10 can access northbound US 54 by taking Exit 22B (US 54 Alamogordo/Fort Bliss/Juárez), travelling toward Juárez, u-turning at US 62 (Paisano Drive) and entering US 54 northbound. All traffic on northbound US 54 must then take Exit 21B (I-10 West/Montana Avenue), travel north on Gateway Boulevard North and re-enter US 54 north of Pershing Drive.
  • NOTE: Eastbound traffic on I-10 will access northbound US 54 as usual. The collector/distributor (C/D) lanes on northbound US 54 will remain open.

Lane Closures Required for Work on Electric, Fiber Lines

 

While steel and concrete may be the most visible components of the I-10 Connect Project, motorists will encounter lane closures in the coming weeks as crews work on less visible but still very important elements of the project including relocation of electrical lines and fiber optic communications lines.

 

Saturday, May 11, and Sunday, May 12

Daily from 9am to 4pm

 

  • Lane closures will be in place on Gateway Boulevard East from Lincoln Center to Marr Street.

 

Crews will be working on electrical lines and fiber optic communication lines.

  • Alternating lane closures will be in place on Delta Drive between Boone Street and San Marcial Street.

  • Alternating lane closures will be in place on Gateway Boulevard East from Piedras Street to US 62/180 (Paisano Drive).
  • Alternating lane closures will be in place on Gateway Boulevard West from Boone Street to Palm Street.

  • Lane closures on Boone Street between Yandell Drive and Gateway Boulevard West.

The Following Long-Term Closures Will Remain In Place During the Week of May 13:

 

  • Ramp T which connects Gateway Boulevard North to northbound US 54 north of US 62 (Paisano Drive) remains closed until further notice.
  • Both turnarounds between Gateway Boulevard North and Gateway Boulevard South under US 54 at US 62 (Paisano Drive) remain closed until further notice.
  • Turnaround from Gateway Boulevard East to Gateway Boulevard West under I-10 at Trowbridge Drive remains closed until further notice.
  • Lane closures are in place on eastbound and westbound US 62 (Paisano Drive) at US 54 until further notice.
  • Lane closures are in place on Ramp D which connects southbound US 54 to eastbound I-10 until further notice.
  • Intermittent lane closures on Gateway Boulevard South between Findley Avenue and US 62 (Paisano Drive).

 

All closures are subject to change due to weather or field conditions. On ramps and off ramps may close up to an hour before stated times.

·      The right lane on the main lanes of I-10 West, approaching the North Mesa exit, will close. The westbound CD lanes will remain open.

Eastbound CD lanes at Sunland

·      The right lane on the eastbound CD lanes, approaching the Sunland Park exit ramp (exit 13), will close.

·      The dedicated right turn lane at the signalized intersection at Sunland Park Drive will close.

·      The right two lanes on Sunland Park Drive – traveling from South Mesa Hills toward the I-10 overpass – will close starting at the traffic lights near the Sunland Plaza shopping center.

·      The Sunland Park flyover entrance ramp to I-10 East will remain accessible.

I-10 Both Directions

 

Two Nights

May 14 and 15

9 pm each night to 6 am each following morning

 

·      The main lanes of I-10 East will close completely at the North Mesa exit ramp (exit 11).

 

Detour:  Motorists on I-10 East will exit at North Mesa (exit 11), then follow the eastbound CD lanes to re-enter I-10 East.

 

·      The main lanes of I-10 West will close completely at the Sunland Park exit ramp (exit 13).

 

Detour: Motorists on I-10 West will exit at Sunland Park (exit 13), then follow the westbound CD lanes to re-enter I-10 West prior to reaching North Mesa Street (SH 20).

 

·      The North Mesa entrance ramp to the main lanes of I-10 East will close.

·      The turnaround bridges at the Sunland Park Drive overpass will close.
