Connect10, Go10, TxDoT work, closures and more for week of May 5
Here’s a look at the project closures for the week ahead, including a 26-hour closure this weekend on the GO10 Project. Once the closure lifts, the collector-distributor lanes will open along with the turnaround lanes at the Sunland Park Interchange.
Marking the most significant milestone for the GO 10 project, the full length of the I-10 collector-distributor (CD) lanes will open Monday morning, May 6. The CD lanes – eastbound and westbound – are located along I-10 between Buena Vista (mile marker 14) and North Mesa (exit 11).
Access to the CD lanes means drivers will enjoy additional lanes and more vehicular capacity through the I-10 corridor on El Paso’s westside.
It also means a safer corridor because the CD lanes will help to separate local drivers (who live and work on the westside) from long-haul drivers (such as semi-trucks and long-distance commuters).
For the region, it means near completion of Loop 375 thanks to more access to overpasses and ramps in the I-10/Sunland area.
Pictured above is part of the GO 10 project in the Sunland Park area that represents the most complicated section of the entire six-mile GO 10 work zone. Officials say this section will probably benefit most from the CD lanes because its transformation was the most complex. It involved the demolition and rebuilding of seven bridges and the construction of seven bridges that did not exist before.
Opening the CD lanes in this area will be like fully opening a faucet that had been on trickle for the last three years.
Although the CD lanes mark a major win for West El Paso, motorists may expect GO 10 construction activities to be ongoing throughout the six-mile corridor, particularly in the median of I-10 between Sunland Park and approximately mile marker 15.
Crews still have until this summer to finish roadway work while still being on-time and on-budget.
