On Tuesday, El Paso City Council awarded a design contract valued at approximately $1.5 million to Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, Inc. for design services of four water parks.
“These water parks are going to revamp and modernize our aquatics program,” Capital Improvement Department Director Sam Rodriguez said. “They will provide our community with exceptional recreational opportunities. We will achieve that by replacing outdoor rectangular pools that have outlived their useful life, with state of the art outdoor aquatic facilities that will serve people of all ages.”
The water parks, commonly referred to by City staff as regional aquatic facilities, will be located throughout the community. Chelsea at 900 Radford. Lionel Forti at 1225 Giles.
The other two water parks are programmed for the Northeast and the Westside. Additionally, the City of El Paso is currently designing one for the Eastside Regional Park, which will be located near the intersection of Montana Avenue and Hueco Club Road.
The projects are funded by the 2012 Quality of Life Bond Program, and the 2017 and 2018 Capital Plan, and include the following amenities and services:
- A 6,000 square foot facility
- Zero depth entry water play area and water spray ground
- Lazy River water play area
- Water slides
- A lap pool with climbing wall and water basketball
- Toddler splash area
- Cabanas that can be reserved for events and gathering
- Outdoor grill, concessions, and party room
- ADA compliant parking areas
The projects are part of the City of El Paso’s commitment to enhance the quality of life for business, residents and visitors through the creation of recreational, cultural and educational environments.
