County Judge provides update on 8th Court of Appeals Hearing, Issues statement
After the injunction for County Judge Ricardo Samaniego’s ‘Stay at Home Order’ was denied on Friday and an appeal filed, Monday evening officials released an update and a statement from the county judge himself.
According to officials, the 8th Court of Appeals issued an order Monday granting a request for an expedited appeal and scheduled a timeline for briefings.
Per the order, the Court has requested the additional submission of briefs and plans to issue an opinion on the merits by November 13th.
County Judge Samaniego also released the following statement:
“I’ll be spending the next few days consulting with members of our medical community and hospitals in order to make a decision that is in the best interest of El Paso,” said County Judge Ricardo A. Samaniego.
“I will continue to hold firm and prioritize the health of the El Paso community above all else. Again, I must emphasize that regardless of the decision that will be made this week we must all take personal responsibility to protect our loved ones. Please stay home as much as you can, avoid large gatherings and continue to wear your mask. I applaud those businesses, big and small, who have continued to prioritize the safety of their employees and their customers during these unprecedented times. I encourage the community to support them by taking advantage of curbside-to-go and the many other delivery options that are available. “
Officials also reminded residents that the County Judge’s Order continues and does not expire until Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at 11:59 PM MST, unless it is extended.
