Officials with the Fabens Independent School District announced Friday afternoon that the district will close from October 19 through 23, due to the rise of COVID-19 numbers in the county of El Paso and the Fabens community.
According to FISD, remote instruction will continue during this closure. Officials asked that students and staff to follow all health guidelines.
“Fabens ISD is working with the Texas Department of Emergency Management and The Texas Education Agency to train personnel to administer the COVID-19 rapid antigen tests,” FISD officials added.
“This test will be available for all staff and selected high school students in conjunction with the pilot program in which (8) school districts in Texas, including Fabens ISD, are participating.”
Fabens ISD is one of two local ISDs participating, and one of eight selected statewide.
“The safe return of students and staff is our top priority,” FISD officials added.
