PALM DESERT, Ca. – The UTEP Men’s Golf team closed out the final round of action at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate with the Miners finishing 12th as a team on Sunday at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, California.
The Miners opened the 2021 season on Friday under the direction of first-year head coach Derek Plucienski as UTEP posted its best round of the tournament with a team total of 291 (+3) to start the campaign.
UTEP shot identical rounds of 295 (+7) on Saturday and Sunday to finish the event with a three-round total of 881 (+17).
UTEP’s Danny Daniels led the Miners on the weekend after ending the event in a tie for 19th place after shooting 72-73-72 for a three-round total of 217 (+1). Jacob Presutti shot 220 (73-74-73; +4) over the course of the tournament to finish tied for 39th individually.
Newcomer Greg Holmes opened the weekend by shooting even par (72) before following up with scores of 73 and 77 (222; +6) to finish just outside the top 50 in a tie for 52nd.
Greg Yellin enjoyed his best round of golf on the final day, shooting 73 on Sunday after shooting 74 and 78 in the previous rounds. Yellin finished with a three-round total of 225 (+9). Senior Cole Donielson was close behind his teammate after shooting 10-over par for the weekend (74-75-77=226).
Georgia Tech took home the team title at this weekend’s Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate after finishing at 16-under over three rounds.
The Miners return to the links March 1 when the team travels to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to compete in the New Mexico/UTEP Shootout.
