In 2003 DC Comics published Superman: Red Son under their ElseWorlds imprint. Red Son is set in a world where Superman’s rocket ship lands on a Ukrainian collective farm rather than in Kansas.
Instead of fighting for “Truth, Justice, and the American Way”, Soviet radio broadcasts describe Superman as “The Champion of the common worker who fights a never ending battle for Stalin, socialism, and the international expansion of the Warsaw Pact.”
The Ukranian landing of Superman goes about changing the course of history, as well as other superheroes.
Red Son has always been one of my top 5 Superman stories. I am happy to see it finally making the leap from page to screen, even if only in animation. Warner Bros. announced the feature was being planned for a release in the spring of 2020.
There was no mention of who specifically would be involved in the making of the film. The Eisner nominated series has long been a popular alternate reality tale and has been featured in DC’s restructured multiverse.
