John De La Rosa was named to the InTouch Credit Union Conference USA All-Academic team the league announced on Thursday.
De La Rosa is the first Miner to receive the award since Wesley Miller in 2014. The offensive lineman is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Leadership Studies sporting a 3.60 GPA. He is also a two-time Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient.
The senior earned a starting position during fall camp and started the first three games at the right guard spot before switching to right tackle. The Miners rank second in C-USA in least penalty yards (550) and penalty yards per game (45.8). He helped pave the way for Conference USA’s leading rusher.
UTEP committed two penalties against Old Dominion, followed with a season-low one against Houston Baptist and ended season with three penalties versus North Texas.
