Delfosse and Ostos Lead UTEP at GCU Invitational

The UTEP women’s golf team finished tied for 15th out of 20 teams at the 2022 GCU Invitational hosted at the GCU Golf Course (par 72) over the past two days.

Participants competed in 36 holes on Monday before rounding out the tournament with 18 more on Tuesday.

For the tournament, the Miners finished with a score of 924 (310, 303, 311), putting UTEP in a tie with UTRGV (304, 312, 308).

Host Grand Canyon took the top team honors for the third consecutive year, posting a final tally of 860 (279, 291, 290) to sit five strokes ahead of second-place Santa Clara. Alexis Linam of GCU was the top finisher with a 3-under score, including a 69 in the final round.

Sophie Delfosse led UTEP throughout the two days on the way to wrapping up the tournament in a tie for 26th with a 7-over par 223 (73, 74, 76). Not too far behind was Andrea Ostos in a tie for 42nd with an 11-over par 227 (77, 75, 75).

Delfosse was outstanding on par 3 holes, shooting even-par to rank in a tie for third in that statistic for the tournament. In addition, with 38 pars, Delfosse finished in a tie for ninth in that category.

Marta Romeu Chen (237), Ella Hammond-Baveystock (240) and Naomi Ramirez (243) also competed for the Miners in Phoenix.
