Delfosse ties for fourth to pace UTEP Women’s Golf at MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – UTEP women’s golf junior Sophie Delfosse finished tied for fourth place on the final day at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial hosted by Missouri State at Twin Oaks Country Club (par 71, 6026 yards) on Tuesday afternoon.

Delfosse finished tied for fourth with three other golfers out of 79 total competitors. The native of Valenciennes, France, shot 4-over par, 217 (71, 74, 72), finishing six strokes behind tournament winner host MSU’s Abby Cavaiani (2-under par, 211). Cavaiani was the only competitor to finish under par. Delfosse shot 1-under par on par 3 holes, tying for first, and tallied four birdies.

Oral Roberts’ Kiana Oshiro finished second at even-par, 213, while Wichita State’s Louisa Brunt placed third, shooting 3-over par, 216. Oral Roberts’ Sarah Bell, and Cal Baptist’s Sofia Chabon and Hailey Loh tied with Delfosse on the leaderboard.

“Happy to see Sophie playing well,” UTEP Head Coach Jere Pelletier said. “But we all need to work harder to start finishing in the top 10.”

Overall, UTEP finished in 11th place.

Oral Roberts pulled away from the field, shooting 22-over par, 874 (292, 290, 292) to win the team title. Cal Baptist (30-over par, 882) finished in second, eight strokes behind ORU. Drake and Murray State placed tied for third, shooting 51-over par, 903. EIU finished 16th, shooting 160-over par, 1012.

Naomi Ramirez (231) tied for 36th, while Marta Romeu (232), Andrea Ostos (233) and Sofia Chauvet (256) rounded out the order of finish for UTEP.

The Miners will compete at the Bearkat Invitational hosted by Sam Houston on Sept. 27-28 in Huntsville, Texas.
