Churches within the Catholic Diocese of El Paso will be entering Phase 4 in the Diocesan Protocol for Church gatherings, meaning 50% capacity for the various facilities throughout the county.
“Parish churches may expand gatherings to 50% capacity, with the expectation that strict adherence to mask wearing inside parish facilities is practiced at all times,” diocesan officials shared Wednesday night. “These guidelines will apply to events in church as well as other facilities within the parish.”
Officials with the Diocese added that parishes are “highly encouraged” to find ways to improve ventilation in their facilities to avoid the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Food preparation may be conducted in parish facilities by those who are fully vaccinated. The number of those preparing food should be limited so that appropriate distancing will be possible. Masks for those preparing food should be worn at all times.
The dispensation from the Obligation of Catholics who are in good health to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days will continue for the time being. However, those Catholics that have been fully vaccinated are highly encouraged to return to mass in public.
Weddings and funerals will remain at a maximum of 75 people inside of a church and 25 people at the graveside service.
