With just under a month to go before Pope Francis’ historic visit to Juarez and the Borderland, the Diocese of El Paso announces both the city’s participation and exactly how the Sun Bowl will be used.
Via a new Facebook Page and Website: Two Nations, One Faith, officials with the Diocese placed all the information for those interested in attending the celebration at the Sun Bowl. In addition to information regarding the celebration, the Diocese also included information regarding the day’s program, ticket prices, as well as volunteering opportunities.
The entire event is slated to run six hours, with the gates to the Sun Bowl opening at 12 Noon; the musical program is slated to begin at 1:30 and the telecast of the Papal Mass is scheduled for 4 p.m. There will be buses available for those headed to the event.
According to the website, the Sun Bowl celebration will incorporate national and local religious, cultural and musical elements culminating with the live telecast of the Mass in Juarez. Before the Mass begins, officials say there will be activities and entertainment, a fun zone for children and commemorative merchandise for sale.
Officials add that the Pope’s route through Juarez will be telecast as well.
During a Monday morning news conference, officials with the city – including Mayor Oscar Leeser – outlined the city’s readiness for the visit. Officials shared that the 10,000 plus hotel rooms were ready, and that the city’s law enforcement would be ready for the crowds on this side of the border.
