The Diocese of El Paso will hold a Special Collection in all parishes on Saturday, January 9 and Sunday, January 10, 2016 for the Pope’s Visit to Cd. Juarez.
This appeal is to support Pope Francis’ forthcoming visit to the borderland of Cd. Juarez and El Paso. Vatican officials announced that Pope Francis will come to Juárez on February 17, at the end of his six-day tour of Mexico. The pontiff will fly into Juárez and is expected to visit Cereso prison, meet with workers, and then celebrate a Mass at the border.
Pope Francis will celebrate Mass with more than 200,000 in attendance at the fairgrounds where the former Juárez Feria was held, in the Benito Juárez Olympic Stadium parking lot, and ending at the Chamizal Park near the Rio Grande.
The Diocese of El Paso is planning events and activities on this side of the border leading up to and after the Pope’s visit including gathering at the Cesar Chavez Border Highway to watch the Papal Mass and live streaming the Pope’s visit at a public location.
The appeal on the weekend of January 9 and 10 is to ask for the support of parishioners to help the Diocese of Juarez with the expenses of the Papal Mass such as candles, hosts and the ciboria.
This is a unique opportunity for parishioners in the Diocese of El Paso to be part of the Papal Mass.
