DMD approves Facade Improvement Grant Funds for Union Plaza Property

The Downtown Management District (DMD) Board of Directors approved façade improvement grant funds for a property located at 200 Anthony Street in Union Plaza.

The Clean Group, LLP, was approved for $25,000 in commercial façade improvement grant funds on a 1:1 match – the estimated total project cost is $50,630.00.

Planned façade improvements on the property slated for residential mixed use, include: demolition of existing stucco and façade in preparation for structural improvements and the installation of nine aluminum storefront doors. In addition, there will be the installation of metal panels, studs, and concrete floor anchors.

Grant applicants describe plans for the property as urban residential lofts in an industrial working environment.

The Commercial Façade Improvement Grant provides matching funds to existing businesses and/or property owners to make improvements to the exterior of buildings in the boundaries of the El Paso DMD, and/or the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No. 5 (TIRZ). The program is managed by the DMD with funding from the DMD and TIRZ.

Applications are considered on a first-come, first-serve basis while funding is available. Applicants can apply for up to $25,000 in reimbursement funding.

The Commercial Façade Improvement Program is one of four downtown grant programs offered by the DMD, such as Iconic Signage and Lighting Program, Pedestrian Corridor Improvement Grant Program, and the Mural Grant Program.

Approval for the most recent project took place during the DMD Board of Directors meeting on Thursday, September 24, 2020.

Interested applicants can obtain program guidelines and applications by calling the DMD office at 915-400-2294 or by going online.
