DMD Approves Grant Funds for Rocketbuster Boots Facade

The Downtown Management District (DMD) Board of Directors approved $25,000 in grant funds for façade improvements at 115 S. Anthony St., home of Rocketbuster Boots, as part of the Downtown Commercial Façade Improvement Grant program.

Martin F. Snortum purchased the property that is home to Rocketbuster Handmade Boots in 1992 – the business itself has been in operation for 28 years. Total estimated project cost is $53,121.50.

Planned façade improvements on the property include fabrication and installation of structural steel canopy. Fabrication and installation of steel fabrications to include: sculpture mounting, exterior windows & door treatments, bike rack. Further improvements include, soda blasting and repointing of brick to return front façade to original red brick. Installation of electric circuitry, lighting, as well as fabrication and installation of lighted letter signage.

“Rocketbuster Boots is an El Paso icon and a shining example of the success small businesses can achieve in our community,” said DMD Executive Director Joe Gudenrath. “This project will further highlight their investment in the downtown and their reputation as one of the nation’s premier boot makers!”

The program provides matching funds to existing businesses and/or property owners to make improvements to the exterior of buildings in the boundaries of the El Paso DMD, the Downtown 2015 Plan area, and/or the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No. 5 (TIRZ). The program is managed by the DMD with funding from the DMD and TIRZ.

Applications are considered on a first-come, first-serve basis while funding is available. Applicants can apply for up to $25,000 in reimbursement funding.

The DMD Board of Directors meeting took place on Thursday, October 27, 2016.

Funding is currently available for additional grant applications.  Property owners interested in improving the exterior of their building can call the DMD at (915) 400-2294 or e-mail TMais@elpasodmd.org
