Downtown Management District hosts first ever Downtown Employee Appreciation Day

Officials with the El Paso Downtown Management District (DMD) have decided to show their appreciation by hosting the first ever Downtown Employee Appreciation Day.

“We are elated to see Downtown employees return to the Downtown. This has been an idea we wanted to execute for years but after a year without most of our Downtown working community the time is right to show how much we’ve missed and appreciate them,” said Joe Gudenrath, DMD Executive Director.

On Friday, September 17, 2021, the DMD will be stationed on Mills Avenue between Mesa and Oregon (South of San Jacinto Plaza), providing complimentary food, drink and filling the day with prizes, activities, music, live art, special guests, and more.

“We encourage Downtown employees to pre-register on our event page so they can enjoy all of our programming, such as the Downtown Coffee Kickstarter first thing in the morning with a free coffee and pan dulce to the first 100 Downtown employees that arrive,” officials said.

Complimentary lunches from select eateries will be given to registered Downtown employees while supplies last to the first 200 that arrive.

“Downtown employees have always been a crucial component of our Downtown but with the unexpected year we experienced it is even more obvious how much of an impact losing a large working base can have on the community,” DMD officials shared.

“The faces of our Downtown employees are a kaleidoscope of dreams and determination that wear many hats, and we want to show them how much we appreciate their presence with a day of food, fun, and more!”

Organizers add that throughout the day, downtown employees or business owners can come down and participate in scheduled programming, such as Scoring a Goal with Ozzy, Pitch Perfect with Chico, Freeflow Freethows with UTEP, Strutting Your Putt, and even a little Karaoke.

After working hours, the DMD is hosting an hour of live music for Happy Hour from 5 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. at select Downtown bars.
