In an effort to support Downtown food and beverage businesses, the Downtown Management District (DMD) is launching the Fresh Air Food Court pilot program.
“We empathize with businesses and understand the past few months have been extremely stressful. We applaud all of their efforts to sustain their livelihoods during this time. This program will remind everybody of the great environment our Downtown offers, and that we can still experience and enjoy our Downtown in a responsible way,” Joe Gudenrath, DMD Executive Director.
The new Downtown amenity opens at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 18th and runs daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Sunday, July 5th.
According to officials, the 18 day program will support Downtown brick and mortar food and beverage businesses by expanding seating capacity and providing customers with a safe, sanitized, and socially distanced dining experience.
The Fresh Air Food Court provides the public an opportunity to buy from local Downtown restaurants and cafés, then dine in a socially distanced, sanitized, fresh air, on-street seating area located on Mills Avenue at Mesa Street.
“The setting is perfect for coffee meetings, date night, and family meals,” DMD officials added.
To help ensure the safe and responsible operation of the dining area, the DMD will have staff on duty throughout the day to sanitize the area and assist guests.
Guests are asked to abide by the following rules:
- Please wait to be seated.
- Seating is for customers only – 90 minute time limit.
- Only parties of 6 or less allowed.
- No tipping.
- Maintain a minimum of 6 feet between parties.
- We suggest wearing face coverings when possible.
- No smoking in area.
- Please dispose of trash.
The program is supported by WestStar Bank, El Paso Electric, and the El Paso Community Foundation’s ‘Get Shift Done’ program, in an effort to support Downtown businesses and reengage the El Paso community with Downtown.
