Downtown Welcome Ambassadors are back after challenges during Pandemic

With Downtown El Paso again bustling with nightlife, events, the Downtown Management District (DMD) Welcome Ambassador Program is active once again with ambassadors sporting purple shirts and smiles ready to welcome visitors after a difficult 2020.

“Downtown El Paso keeps growing and evolving, even after the events of the year we just lived through. Now, more than ever, visitors are looking for an opportunity to reunite with Downtown or experience it for the first time,” said DMD Executive Director, Joe Gudenrath.

“We have lost some businesses but gained others and there is plenty to see and experience. For some, a visit Downtown may be the first since before the pandemic, so we want to ensure a friendly face is here to welcome them with useful guidance.”

DMD officials share that Downtown El Paso was on a rising trend of activity until the events of 2020. The pandemic negatively impacted Downtown business, investment, events, tourism and ultimately foot traffic, placing the program in hibernation until now.

“With increased activity, ambassadors are once again poised and ready to help provide a positive experience for Downtown visitors,” DMD officials added.

The program was first rolled out during the Fall of 2016, places friendly, identifiable, knowledgeable and trained ambassadors in public Downtown spaces to greet visitors, answer questions, provide directions, and assist people as needed.
