Eastlake Soccer teams competing in Spain; Boys’ squad wins 1st game 2-1, Girls win 4-3

After countless fundraisers here at home and a trip overseas that saw a couple of delays, the Eastlake High School boys and girls soccer teams arrived in Barcelona Monday and immediately made history.

The Falcons won their first game 2-1 versus a team with a very familiar-sounding name: Del Valles. The Falcons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but del Valles was able to come back late, scoring their only goal of the game.

The Lady Falcons played immediately following the boy’s game, jumped out to an early lead but had to rally late to win their game 4-3.

As for the trip, the squads were divided into 5 groups for the flights to Spain. Team members, family and staff endured nearly 18 hours of flights and transfers, hindered by a 4-hour delay in Amsterdam, where their plane was parked for repairs.

All involved reached Barcelona safe and sound Monday, and began preparing for the games.

The trip will run through January 4th, and to keep up with the latest on the team and their adventures, simply follow EHS Falcon Soccer Spain on Twitter.
