El Paso Chamber’s Leadership El Paso Class 42 Project to host second blood drive

This week, the Leadership El Paso Class 42 (LEP 42) will be hosting its second blood drive event, and the group is encouraging the community to come out and donate blood.

“Currently, El Paso is facing a severe blood shortage, and every donation makes a big difference,” LEP 42 officials shared via a news release. “The first blood drive, held on Sunday, June 14 for World Blood Donor Day, saw a donation of 14 units in just one morning.”

Earlier in June, the El Paso Chamber‘s 2020 LEP 42 launched “42 and YOU,” a new initiative aimed at supporting the El Paso community through the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

Each year, as part of their curriculum, the Chamber’s Leadership class develops a project to support the community and create positive change.

“This year, LEP 42 has partnered with Operation HOPE to raise funds for groceries for those affected by the pandemic,” group officials said. “In addition, LEP 42 will be organizing blood drives to help meet the increased need in the community.”

The campaign will last 42 days and is seeking assistance and involvement from individuals and organizations across the city.

Leadership El Paso is a yearlong community immersion course for professionals from different industries across El Paso. Participants come together each month to learn more about El Paso’s past, present, and future and to interact with key decision makers in the city.

In addition to learning more about how the El Paso region, each Leadership class is responsible for developing a community project that gives back and encourages positive change.

Over the years, Leadership El Paso classes have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations like: El Paso Opportunity Center, Homerun for the Homeless, Child Crisis Center, El Paso Center of Children, YWCA Sara McKnight TLC, One City One Need, Center Against Family Violence, and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
