El Paso Community College , Workforce and Continuing Education will hold an open house to celebrate the renaming of two departments.
Workforce Development is now the Center for Corporate and Workforce Training while Workplace Literacy has changed its name to the Center for College Access and Development.
“Our new name better reflects what we currently do. We now serve as a bridge for the adult education community into the college to access a continuum of education and training options for underprepared students,” said Sara Martinez, Director of the new Center for College Access and Development.
The Center for Corporate and Workforce Training prepares individuals to enter the labor force with skills in retailing, customer service, computer and general office, medical office, building trades and electrical maintenance. The center is currently providing customer training to Prudential, El Paso Electric and Fullbeauty Brand.
The Center for College Access and Development, introduced in 1985 as the EPCC’s Workplace Literacy Department, has grown in responsibility and commitment to El Paso’s limited-English population.
The program is committed to help non-native English speakers attain the language skills needed for employment, vocational training, or academic preparation.
The open house has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in Room B445, Building B, at the college’s Administrative Services Center, 9050 Viscount.
