Today, the El Paso County Attorney’s Office will be hosting it’s 6th Annual Child Welfare Law CLE. The purpose of the event is to provide training to attorneys, case workers and foster parents on how to better respond and deal with cases of child abuse and neglect.
The legal seminar is one of the events organized by local and state agencies to commemorate April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Last year just in El Paso Child Protective Services reported over 2,000 cases of child abuse or neglect.
Of those cases, 4 resulted in the death of a child due to abuse or extreme neglect.
The legal seminar will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the El Paso Camino Real Hotel.
This year the key-note speaker will be the Commissioner of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Judge John Specia, who will give attendees an overview of the statewide reorganization of the agency.
