El Paso County Sheriff’s Office ‘CSI Workshop’ set for January 21

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit will be hosting Crime Scene Investigation Workshop with special guest Dr. Alejandro Cardenas, world-famous Forensic Odontologist.

The workshop, set for January 21 – 24, is open to interns, forensics and law enforcement students to review Crime Scene procedure topics such as collection and provide participants with an overview of the Crime Scene Investigator career path.

Dr. Cardenas is a forensic doctor at the prosecutor’s office in Ciudad Juarez who has developed a special technique to rehydrate corpses to help identify them. Dr. Cardenas’ technique is so innovative that in 2016, the Mexican Institute for Industrial Property granted him
a patent for his secret formula.

Through the rehydration process, the body can regain most it not all of its original condition. Cardenas has used the process on more than 800 sets of remain since 2013.

Dr. Cardenas has been featured on National Geographic, different news outlets, and has presented his findings many forensic conferences. His attendance at the Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Workshop will make this his first time presenting in the United States.
