El Paso Coyotes face Comets in Final Home Game for 2018

Although officially eliminated from the Major Arena Soccer League playoffs, the El Paso Coyotes are seeking to end their home season on a positive note.

The Coyotes, 9-10, was knocked out of postseason play February 17 after losing a fierce 23-13 matchup against the 13-7 Soles de Sonora, who, in turn, sealed their second-place position in the Southwest Division and a spot in the playoffs, behind the Monterrey Flash, 18-1, in first place.

The top two teams from the four divisions qualify for the playoffs. The Coyotes are in third place with two road games left in the season – 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, at the Turlock Express; and 8 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the San Diego Sockers.

As they have all year, the Coyotes will once again look to the leadership and strong play of midfielders Christian Gutierrez and Hugo Puentes for a home finale victory. The two, who scored three goals each in last week’s loss, are among the top five scorers in the league with 29 goals apiece.

Kansas City, 6-12 in the Central Division and also out of the playoffs, is led by forward Leo Gibson with 23 goals.

The final home game starts at 5 p.m. Sunday, February 25, at the El Paso County Coliseum, 4100 E. Paisano. Tickets cost $5, $10, $15 and $25, and are buy-one, get-one free for adults, and free for ages 15 and under. They are available at the Coliseum Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 800-745-3000 and online.
