The El Paso Coyotes are seeking to get back on track as they continue their three-game homestand at the El Paso County Coliseum.
The Coyotes will try to break a five-game losing streak when they face the Turlock Express in a Major Arena Soccer League match at 7:35 p.m. Friday, January 19, at the Coliseum (4100 East Paisano.)
El Paso, 5-7, has dropped five straight games, including a gut-wrenching 11-10 loss to the Soles de Sonora last Friday. With the defeat, the Coyotes fell to third place in the Southwest Division, behind Sonora at 7-6, and Monterrey, who leads the division at 11-0.
The two top teams in the league’s four divisions qualify for the playoffs. Midfielder Hugo Puentes will be key in guiding the turnaround for the Coyotes.
Puentes, who scored four goals and two assists in last week’s loss, was named to the MASL’s Team of the Week for his stellar performance. He and teammate Christian Gutierrez have 17 goals apiece, so far, this season, ranking them among the league’s leaders. Meanwhile, the Express will rely on forward Ivan Campos, the No. 3 scorer in the league with 21 goals.
Turlock is 2-12 and in last place in the Pacific Division
