El Paso Coyotes Sink Sonora Saturday Night 10-9

The El Paso Coyotes fell behind early, but came back strong to pull off an exciting victory in overtime, defeating the Soles de Sonora 10-9 in a hard-fought Major Arena Soccer League showdown Saturday night at the El Paso County Coliseum.

The Coyotes allowed the Soles to score three straight goals to start the game, but regrouped and followed with four in a row to take the lead at the half. The two teams matched goals, back and forth, throughout the third and fourth periods, but it was the Coyotes who came out ahead in the end, just seconds into overtime, to notch their third victory of the season.

El Paso, now 3-1, had strong team play from a pack of Coyotes, including goals from forward Omar Tapia (2); midfielders Alex Caceres (2), Christian Gutierrez (1), Jorge Rios (1) and Hugo Puentes (1); and defenders Diego Salas (1), Manuel Rojo (1) and Ernesto Luna (1), who scored the game-winning goal.

The Soles, who dropped to 0-3, were led by forward Franck Tayou with four goals and an assist. El Paso is in second place in the Southwest Division, while Sonora is in third. The 4-0 undefeated Monterrey Flash sit in the top spot.

The Coyotes next take on the Turlock Express at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Coliseum, 4100 East Paisano. Tickets, which cost $5, $10, $15 and $25, are available at the Coliseum Box Office, Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 800-745-3000 and online.
