El Paso Electric: Decrease on bills this Summer for Texas Customers

Thursday afternoon, officials with El Paso Electric (EPE) announced that customers who reside in Texas will see a decrease on their electric bills during peak usage of Summer.

EPE Officials say they are filing a request with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) to issue a temporary fuel refund.

“On June 16, EPE filed with the Public Utility Commission of Texas to request a fuel refund for Texas customers over a two-month period,” EPE officials shared.

“If both the refund and refund period are approved, the average residential customer may see a monthly savings of about $5.94 in July and about $6.58 in August for a total savings of $12.52 over the two-month period. Large commercial customers will receive a one-time credit in July 2020.”

According to EPE officials, the fuel factor is designed to recover the cost of the fuel used to generate electricity, a cost EPE incurs supplying electricity to customers.

“EPE is permitted by its regulators to only recover the actual fuel expenses and any over-recoveries are then subject to refund,” officials added via a news release. “EPE adjusts fuel factors periodically to more accurately reflect the current and forecast cost of fuel. EPE does not earn a profit on fuel costs.”

Customers are encouraged to visit the EPE website for energy savings tips and to learn about EPE’s energy efficiency programs.
