The El Paso Fire Department is pleased to announce its 2023 Media Academy program for members of the media to gain a better understanding of the fire service and to become fire-certified journalists.
With the knowledge gained, the certified journalist is allowed access to different areas of incidents, by the Incident Commander.
The program is designed to provide members of the media with an immersive experience of the fire service and its operations. During the program, participants will receive comprehensive training on fire safety, firefighting techniques, and incident command. Participants will also complete a confined space maze blindfolded and in full gear, rappel down the Academy Tower, and fight a fire inside the burn building.
The El Paso Fire Department Media Academy will run from May 22 to May 26, 2023, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the El Paso Fire Department Training Academy. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply by filling out the attached application form and submitting it by May 8, 2023. Please note that the program is limited to 15 people. The program is open to any members of the media and is not just limited to field reporters.
