El Paso Fire Department to unveil 9/11 Memorial Sunday

In commemoration of those who 15 years ago lost their lives during the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the brave men and women of the El Paso Fire Department, El Paso Police Department and El Paso Sheriff’s Office will pay tribute at a special ceremony at Station 18, 7901 San Jose Rd., on Sunday Sept. 11 at 9 a.m.

Additionally, the new 9/11 Memorial “Rising Stronger,” sculpted by artist Julio Sanchez De Alba will be unveiled. Retired Deputy Chief Austin L. Horan from the Fire Department of New York will be the Keynote Speaker.

Chief Horan was only a few miles from the Trade Towers when they fell that tragic day.

Fire Chief Samuel Peña, Police Chief Greg Allen and Sheriff Richard Wiles will share their reflections and present a wreath at the memorial. Several elected officials will also be present.

Those attending the ceremony are encouraged to arrive early as there will be no parking allowed along San Jose Rd. or Wenda Dr. Those attending the ceremony must park on Milton Rd.

The El Paso Fire Department Explorers will be assisting with parking directions that day.
