EPFD phone scam alert

El Paso Fire Department warns of phone scam

Friday morning, officials with the El Paso Fire Department warned the public about an ongoing phone scam, soliciting donations for their association.

“It has come to our attention that some members of our community have received calls from individuals pretending to be part of the El Paso Fire Department and/or the El Paso Firefighters Association Local 51 and asking for donations,” EPFD officials shared via social media.

“Neither the Fire Dept. nor Local 51 ask for donations via phone call. Official campaigns like Fill the Boot are always communicated via our official website, releases, through our media partners, and at official events,” officials added.

Residents should avoid providing personal details over the phone and are advised to hang up immediately.

EPFD officials add that if someone has been a victim, a report can be filled with the El Paso Police Dept. at (915) 832-4436 during business hours, Monday through Friday or anytime online.

Additionally, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is providing a phone line to report phone scams at (915) 832-5000 or online at tips.fbi.gov
