Members of the El Paso Fire Department, through the El Paso Firefighters Association Local 51, will be continuing the long-standing tradition of the Fill the Boot, raising critical funds to help transform the lives of kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and other neuromuscular diseases.
Officials say that donations help the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) continue services for more than 250,000 people living with neuromuscular diseases across the country and helps to continue funding life-saving research.
Dedicated firefighters will hit the streets or storefronts with boots in hand, asking pedestrians, motorists, customers, and other passersby to donate to MDA starting September 10, through September 18, 2021, at various locations in El Paso.
Organizers add that firefighters will be taking extra precautions during the Fill the Boot program this year, such as wearing appropriate personal protective equipment to ensure the health and safety of all firefighters and the public.
For 67 years, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) has collected critical funds in the community – one dollar at a time – as part of the Fill the Boot program.
