El Paso First Health Plans announced the launch of FIRSTCALL, a new 24-hour medical advice information line, which was designed to help answer questions from its Members all day, every day of the year.
FIRSTCALL Medical Advice Infoline is offered at no cost to STAR, CHIP, and CHIP Perinatal Members of El Paso First and their caregivers. The program begins on March 1, 2017.
Bilingual medical professionals will be available to answer Members’ calls. A nurse or pharmacist will triage the Member’s health concern and offer appropriate advice for the medical condition or situation. T
hey may recommend a Member stay home, see their doctor, go to an after-hours/night clinic or emergency room, and in some cases the Member will be told to call 911. Non-member callers will be also be helped and redirected.
“We want to keep our Members healthy and offering the information they need when they need it is our goal with FIRSTCALL,” said Frank Dominguez, President and CEO of El Paso First Health Plans. “Sometimes that happens when a primary care physician office is closed, in the middle of the night, or while a Member is traveling on vacation. Whether it’s treating minor cold symptoms or assessing an emergency situation, the value of this service is knowledge and peace of mind for our Members.”
