El Paso High Centennial Celebrations to Include Attempt at Breaking Guinness World Record

El Paso High School is turning 100 years old in 2016 and its alumni think that’s a good time to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest high- school reunion ever organized.

The El Paso High School Alumni Association is looking to attract at least 3,300 people to officially set the world record, and they reaching out to anyone who attended or worked at the Lady on the Hill for a special gathering following the annual Battle of the Claw football gamebetween the El Paso High Tigers and the Austin High Panthers on Saturday, Oct. 8.

People who are interested to participate may register free of charge from now until Aug. 15. Registration from Aug. 16 to Sept. 23 will be $10, and the cost will increase to $25 on Sept. 24th.

The Guinness World Record attempt is being done in conjunction with other EPHS Centennial and Homecoming activities planned for that weekend. Those include a homecoming parade on Thursday, as well as school tours, panel talks, pep rallies and class reunion parties on Friday.

The world-record break attempt will begin with mandatory check-in from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 8 at Jones Stadium. At around 2:30 p.m. or 30 minutes after the end of the football game, attendees will be asked to gather on the field. Only people who registered and checked in will be allowed to participate.

The football game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

To be eligible to participate in the Guinness World Record attempt, attendees must have attended, worked or taught El Paso High for at least one year. Participants need not have graduated from EPHS.
