The artistic work of the talented students and staff in the District has a new, permanent home at the recently-opened EPISD Administrative Building in Downtown El Paso.
EPISD’s fine arts gallery is located on the first floor of the new building located at 1014 N. Stanton. It is the centerpiece of the new administrative offices that will welcome visitors once the pandemic-related health conditions in the city improve.
EPISD staff can already visit and tour the gallery during office hours. A public opening will be planned at a later date.
“EPISD is incredibly supportive of the arts,” said Rosa Aguilar, EPISD’s fine arts facilitator. “We are so grateful that they have secured a gallery space on the first floor to showcase our student and faculty and staff artwork.”
Sculptures and paintings from teachers and staff already illuminate the first-floor gallery – giving employees in the building a sneak peek of what’s to come.
“Our goal is to be able to have our K-12 art exhibits rotate on a monthly basis, to showcase a variety of selected works, artistic content and artists of all ages and grade levels,” Aguilar said. “The arts have always been a great catalyst for social-emotional learning, we want to encourage and promote self-care through the arts.”
The new gallery replaces the temporary Art Space and Gallery, located on South Campbell Street at the former Raymond Telles Academy. That space closed when the District sold the property and announced plans to open the current space in the new administrative building.
“We want to establish a culture of creativity, innovation, and expression through the arts where every visitor can take a moment out of their busy day and enjoy the beautiful artwork made by our talented district artists,” Aguilar said. “Through venues such as this one, we hope to inspire a new generation of artists in our community.”
