El Paso ISD welcomes Fort Bliss families at relocation fair

El Paso ISD joined more than 100 area organizations to welcome new Fort Bliss soldiers and their families Tuesday at the Bienvenidos a Bliss Relocation Fair at the Centennial Club.

The fair gave military families a chance to ask questions and learn more about EPISD’s campuses and programs including all day Pre-K for 4-year-olds. Spots are still available at selected campuses for Pre-K. Register at episd.org/enroll.

“We’re just starting the new school year and we know that this is a heavy period of transition for military families coming into El Paso and Fort Bliss,” said Alan Weirnicki, EPISD’s chief quality officer and liaison to Fort Bliss. “We wanted to make sure we had an opportunity to welcome them and to tell them about all the great things about our school district.”

EPISD, which was the title sponsor of this year’s Bienvenidos a Bliss Relocation Fair, has maintained a solid partnership with Fort Bliss command over the years. EPISD serves more than 5,000 military students at the five campuses on Fort Bliss property and at other schools throughout the District.

“Our soldiers have the choice of what schools (within EPISD) they can send their children with open enrollment,” said Marlo Brestar, Fort Bliss MWR. “Especially with the Sergeant’s Majors Academy just arriving here, it’s a good resource for them to know what you have to offer and the locations of your schools.”

The fair gave Capt. Veronica Swift, mom to three EPISD students, a chance to ask questions about transportation and inquire about policies related to COVID-19.

“It was good to talk to someone here,” she said. “Sometimes it’s difficult to talk to someone on the phone. Being able to get questions answered face to face was good.”
