El Paso Leadership Academy, along with the Committee for Autism Awareness, will be hosting a Blue Balloon Release and informational event this week in central El Paso.
Organizers have hosted the event to raise awareness for the last four years, and they hope to go beyond their original goal.
“The goal for the this year’s event is slightly different,” says, EPLA Vice Principal Joel Rodriguez, “Not only do we want to raise awareness, but we want to specifically invite parents of those recently diagnosed with Autism because the pandemic situation has made it especially hard for them to find resources right now.”
Organizers share that local agencies will be present to offer their advice and services. they add that if a family member or loved one has recently been diagnosed with Autism, and are interested in attending, they can visit the Event Page for more information.
The event, scheduled for Wednesday, April 14 th at 4:30 pm at the EPLA Flagship Campus (1918 Texas Street.) The event will also be streamed Live on Facebook.
Committee members include Bowie High School Alumni, EPLA Staff, and Dr. Rhonda Manning, who teaches Physical Therapy at the University of Texas at El Paso.
