As September is National Preparedness Month, the El Paso City/County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and the Department of Public Health encourage residents to take time to prepare for potential emergencies at homes, at work, and in the community.
“As we see each year, a disaster can strike at anytime and anywhere,” said Emergency Management Coordinator Jorge Rodriguez.
“Preparedness is more than building a kit. Community preparedness is achieved when neighbors help neighbors plan for and respond to emergencies. Building an “Ready El Paso” culture is the key for a resilient community.”
Having a plan that includes where to go and how to communicate during disasters, building an emergency supply kit and learning lifesaving skills could help your family, friends, neighbors and employees during a disaster.
City officials share that the OEM offers disaster preparedness information on the Ready El Paso website, a one-stop resource for detailed information about what to do before, during and after disasters.
During large-scale disasters, the OEM uses the Ready El Paso website, the emergency alert system and social media pages to provide critical information about the incident, including shelter locations, road closures, safety information, photos and more.
