El Paso Pro-Musica Season at a Glance‏

2015-2016 “Beyond Measure,” brings some of the finest artists in the world to the region, in some very innovative programming for El Paso Pro-Musica.

The mission of El Paso Pro-Musica and its Artistic Director Zuill Bailey, is to present the finest Chamber Music in the world in Concert, and then to insure that this impressive roster of artists work together to provide educational outreach in schools, hospitals, libraries and other venues to make music accessible to all.

This last season, more than 5,000 students  were touched by educational outreach. Zuill Bailey  also performed in such special outreach as in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit of the Hospitals of Providence, Hospice El Paso, the La Fe Cultural and Technology Center and the Lee and Beulah Moor Home.

This year, the Outreach continues with a special emphasis placed on the College Level. Each of the artists that will appear this year in concert have made a special commitment to provide Master Classes and special music career opportunities to the students of the Department of Music at UTEP. Zuill Bailey is a Professor of Cello at UTEP.

duoThe Season begins October 17 and 18th with Guitarist David Leisner and world renowned cellist Zuill Bailey. The concerts in El Paso and Las Cruces will feature a never before heard arrangement of the Schubert Arpeggione for Guitar and Cello, original compositions by David Leisner, the sultry Spanish sounds of composer Manuel de Falla along with Chilean composer Heitor Villa Lobos.

The concerts will highlight the World Premiere of the new CD featuring Zuill and David Leisner.

El Paso Pro-Musica is forging a relationship with Johns Hopkins University and the Peabody School of Music to create the Young Artists Development Series. This project will allow students in advanced and Masters study at Peabody to work in the El Paso region to present Outreach, work directly with the Music Students at UTEP and to present special performances as an avenue to advance their careers, and share their amazing music education with others.

This year, the Young Artist Development Series coincides with the collaboration with the El Paso Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Exhibit Series. The concerts will complement the painting, “The Green Violinist,” by Marc Chagall. The musicians will be featured in Outreach at the Museum of Art and in a special Concert celebrating the coveted painting.

The 2016 El Paso Pro-Musica Chamber Music Festival will begin on January 7-January 30, and will celebrate decade long collaborations in the community. “Bach’s Lunch,” at the El Paso Museum of Art, now in its 10th year, is a free concert every Thursday at Noon during the Festival designed to bring music and visual arts together.

El Paso Pro-Musica also celebrates a 10 year collaboration with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, whereby each year, featured artists are the special Guest Artists for the January Concert. This year, the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Bohuslav Rattay, will present, “Tales of Hemingway,” a Cello Concerto written for Zuill Bailey by Grammy award winning composer Michael Daugherty.

Artists taking part in this year’s festival include The Tempest Trio, with cellist Amit Peled, who performs on the Great Cellist Pablo Casal’s Cello.  Noted Cellist Ralph Kirshbaum will appear, as will the first Organist to win a Grammy, Paul Jacobs.
