EPPM’s Young Artist Development Series Returns with Residency, Concerts

El Paso Pro-Musica is once again collaborating with Johns Hopkins University and the Peabody School of Music to present the Young Artist Development Series.

This year, Peabody Music Conservatory Graduate Student Nathan Cornelius Presents, “A World of Guitar.” Nathan will be participating in a special Residency in El Paso and the region from November 28 through December 2.

Cornelius will be participating in Music Education Outreach and Community Engagement, under the guidance of Artistic Director Zuill Bailey, and visit schools throughout the region, appear in Pop-Up Performances around the community,  including at Hillside Coffee  and Donut Shop on Friday, December 1 at 8:30 a.m. and on Saturday, December 2 at 9:00 a.m. at Starbucks Coffee Shop at Kerbey and Mesa.

He will be part of  a special EPISD Field Trip initiative with the El Paso Museum of Art, in Master Classes for students of UTEP’s Department of Music, appear for students of the La Fe Preparatory School at La Fe’s Cultural and Technology Center, the Ysleta Independent School District, the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, “Tocando,” program   and in Concert in El Paso and Las Cruces.

“Alongside UTEP’s Center for Arts Entrepreneurship, this is an ideal scenario for young talent seeking careers in music in the 21st century. The Young Artist Development series allows these tremendous students to engage young students in a world of music and at the same time, learning the tools of success of Musical performance,” said Zuill Bailey.

“It is such a wonderful opportunity to showcase great talent from Peabody, my alma mater, with my home here in El Paso.”

Zuill Bailey travels to the Peabody Conservatory each year,  for a special audition to select young musicians for the Young Artist Development Series. Nathan Cornelius is the fourth student to participate in the program that kicks off in El Paso each year. Previous ” YADS,” winners, include violinist and pianist Nikita and Margarita Borisevich, Marquee Brass and Trio Jinx, all who have gone on to amazing careers with El Paso as the ” first stop,” in their success.

Nathan will appear in a Special “Twilight Tour,” Concert at the Double Eagle in Old Mesilla at 6:00 p.m.  on Thursday, November 30. He will appear in Concert  at UTEP’s Fox Fine Arts Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 1.
