El Paso Regional Spelling Bee winner, runner-up receive awards

The EPISD Education Foundation and Peter Piper Pizza had an official awards presentation to Marium Zahra and Arnav Tonde — the first and second place winners of the El Paso Regional Spelling Bee.

The Bee this year was held virtually for the first time in history, but the Foundation had a formal award ceremony with the top two spellers, both EPISD students.
Marium, a seventh grader at Young Women’s STEM Research & Preparatory Academy, and Arnav, a sixth grader at Wiggs Middle School, were among the 21 students from school districts throughout El Paso and southern New Mexico competing in the virtual event.
Marium now advances to the Scripps National Competition, which will include virtual rounds until 10-12 finalists emerge for the live competition in July in Disney World.
Peter Piper mascot Rocky presented their awards and also gave them certificates for pizza.
