El Paso Scorpions Rugby Club set to Open 2016 Season Saturday

As the weather around the Borderland turns increasingly Spring-like, the city’s premiere rugby squad – the El Paso Scorpions – are set to take to the pitch for the first match of the 2016 season.

The Scorpions will be facing their I-25 rivals, the Albuquerque Brujos, at their home paddock located at Chamberino (430 La Vina Road in Anthony, NM).  Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and team officials remind their fans to bring your chairs, umbrellas, and coolers.

The El Paso Scorpions are part of the El Paso Youth Rugby Foundation (EPYRF) which is a Non-Profit Organization and  all donations are tax deductible. While the team has been playing in the El Paso area for nearly 40-years, the sport has a long tradition in the Borderland.

Since 1991 the Scorpions have dominated the Rio Grande Union Championships and won their share of tournaments, including the prestigious High Desert Classic 4 times.

Team officials add, “Regardless of how you contribute, we are grateful for your support….thanks to your donations, we will be able to help pay USA Rugby Union dues, player dues, travel expenses, playoff expenses, and for field/team equipment.”
