The City of El Paso is excited to announce that USA CRITS has selected El Paso to host the first 2019 Rise – Cycling Talent Identification Combine & Symposium during the next five years with the inaugural event scheduled for June 13 through June 16.
“We are very honored and excited to welcome the 2019 Cycling Talent Identification and Symposium to our vibrant city,” said Deputy City Manager Cary Westin. “It’s part of an ongoing effort assigned by the City Manager to work with the business community and convention developers to bring more conventions and visitor opportunities to El Paso. We look forward to the opportunity to showcase all of the amazing things that El Paso has to offer.”
The first-of-its-kind event gives high school and college bound student athletes the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of coaches, administrators and sports directors from collegiate, club, elite national and international teams for selection and scholarship awards.
The RISE Cycling Symposium is expected to draw more than 2,500 attendees and could contribute an estimated $2.2 million in economic impact each year. As part of the multi-year award, the organization will pump over $10 million into the local economy over the course of five years.
The program includes performance and mental testing, educational seminars, keynote presentations, peer-to-peer interaction, innovative panel discussions and a leading brands expo. The event is open to all interested endurance-minded athletes, not just those seeking collegiate recruitment and scholarship opportunities.
In addition to the RISE Cycling Symposium, El Paso will host an annual Criterium beginning in March 2019. A Criterium is an intense, short, fast-paced bicycle race.
The annual races are expected to draw more than 2,000 competitors and spectators from around the country for 2 to 3 days and contribute an estimate $250,000 in economic impact each year.
Several institutions are working together to host the annual event, including the City, Destination El Paso, the University of Texas at El Paso, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and USA CRITS.
USA CRITS is the premiere cycling series in the United States for elite cyclist. USA CRITS was developed to feature criterium racers and to offer venues, teams, and riders the ability to excel in cycling’s most exciting discipline.
The event locations that form the USA CRITS Series represent more than 100 years of racing and promote the ideals that have made criterium racing an American legacy: challenging courses that showcase arts and entertainment districts, a large and growing base of spectators, broad community support, and strong marketing opportunities for partners.
