El Paso Streetcar Project to close San Antonio Avenue Friday

San Antonio Avenue will close to all eastbound and westbound traffic at Kansas Street beginning on Friday, March 4, 2016. The closure, which will last for approximately two weeks, is necessary to allow crews to continue underground utility work related to the El Paso Streetcar Project.

Marked detours will be in place. Additionally, motorists are encouraged to consider Texas Avenue as an alternate route.

When work at the intersection of San Antonio and Kansas is complete, Texas Avenue will close to all traffic at Kansas Street. Kansas Street remains closed between Texas and San Antonio.

Traffic impacts related to construction are also expected at several streets along the route.

Arizona Avenue is scheduled to re-open to traffic at Stanton Street on Friday, March 4, 2016. At that time, Rio Grande Avenue will close to traffic at Stanton Street. Stanton Street will remain closed to traffic between Montana and Arizona.

The intersection of Santa Fe Street and Franklin Avenue is scheduled to re-open next week. When it does, lane closures will begin along Santa Fe Street between Main Drive and San Antonio Avenue.

Intermittent lane closures will continue on Oregon Street between Arizona Avenue and River Avenue and between University Avenue and Glory Road.  Father Rahm Avenue will remain closed to eastbound and westbound traffic from Santa Fe Street to Campbell Street. Occasional lane closures on north-south streets crossing Father Rahm will continue.

Moving lane closures will take place through the 4.8-mile route during overnight hours. Traffic will be able to flow around work zones. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution.
