As construction on the El Paso Streetcar project progresses, the Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority (CRRMA) will host an open house for members of the community to meet the construction team, learn more about the project timeline and participate in special interactive exhibits and activities.
The Open House will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at the El Paso Public Library’s Main Branch, 501 N. Santa Fe St., in Downtown El Paso. Attendees will be provided with El Paso Streetcar memorabilia on a first come first served basis.
“We’re excited to share the progress which crews have already made since beginning work late last year,” said Raymond Telles, Executive Director of the CRRMA. “This is an important opportunity for members of the community to meet the men and women working the project, learn what work is presently underway, and learn about the work that will take place over the next two years.”
The open house will be a come-and-go format and exhibits will include an actual piece of track similar to what will be used in the project, up to date progress photos of our streetcar restoration, historical information about El Paso’s streetcar heritage and a schematic of work covering the entire route.
Crews are currently working at several locations along the route to relocate utilities for the project. Once all utility relocation work is completed, crews will begin laying track. Once all track is laid, crews will begin installing and electrifying the overhead lines which will power the streetcars.
