El Pasoans Fighting Hunger announces closures, reduction of hours for two Mega Pantry Sites

Monday afternoon, officials with El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank announced changes to their operating schedules at their various locations.

“Given staffing constraints, these changes are necessary for continued operation of food distribution at the food bank locations,” officials shared via a news release.

Officials say they recognize the need is great with 120,000 plus of our neighbors still in need of food to sustain themselves and their families.

El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank is actively working to recruit volunteers as well as develop self-service distribution models, including a new open air “Mercado” at our headquarters at 9541 Plaza Circle, which is planned to open as soon as possible in September.

“The Food Bank is determined to ensure that every person experiencing hunger gets the food they need, and we are working hard to ensure El Paso remains a hunger free community.” Stated Susan E. Goodell, Chief Executive Officer, El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank.

El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank is extremely grateful to many groups who have helped during the pandemic.  A few of these include:  The Texas National Guard, AmeriCorps, Team Rubicon, Get Shift Done and Workforce Solutions Borderplex.

Officials add that the groups are no longer providing pandemic support, have reduced in size, or are being drawn down.  Sadly, due to a lack of manpower, these primary distribution sites are impacted.

  • Headquarters (El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank, 9541 Plaza Circle) will have a change in hours. Effective Monday, August 9, the new hours will be from 10AM to 5PM, Monday through Friday.
  • Northeast (Nolan Richardson Recreation Center) will be CLOSING. Last day at this location will be Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021.
  • Horizon (Holy Spirit Church, 14600 Horizon Blvd.) will be REDUCING days/hours. El Pasoans Fighting Hunger will no longer be operating this site.  Holy Spirit Church is stepping up to operate this site one evening and potentially one morning per week.  They will be distributing food starting Wednesday, August 11, from 6-8 p.m.  This new schedule is effective Aug. 9, 2021.
  • EPFH West Distribution (5300 Doniphan) will have a change in hours. Effective Monday, August 9, the new hours will be 10AM to 3PM.
