El Pasoans urged to foster for the Holidays as shelter’s kennels fill up

As the holidays approach, the kennels of El Paso Animal Services quickly filling up and officials are asking fellow El Pasoans to lend a hand – and a home.

With nearly 500 pets already being housed in the shelter, community members are needed to help give the pets a temporary home.

“Animal Services’ Foster Program is completely free and foster families are provided all the food, supplies, and medical care needed,” Animal Services officials shared.  “All a foster family provides is a temporary loving home for a pet, or pets, in need.”

Foster families will typically care for a pet for a period of two to four weeks.  Those interested in becoming a foster can register online.

After registering, foster counseling and processing is then completed over the phone and by curbside service, minimizing contact for customers and staff.

“So far this year, nearly 2,000 families have registered to become fosters, caring for more than 2,470 shelter pets,” officials added.

For families ready to make a long-term commitment, our Adoption Program is still processing adoptions via virtual and curbside service. To view available pets, click here.
